Farm Drop-Off
We believe composting should be accessible to everyone. Urbavore Farm’s free compost drop-off is a great option if you can’t (or don’t want to) pay for one of our more convenient services. After all, it’s not all that far out of the way, and perhaps you live nearby, or can make an infrequent trip! If it is out of the way, though, we encourage you to consider another option with a lower carbon footprint.
Free Compost Drop
Urbavore Urban Farm
5500 Bennington Ave.
Kansas City, MO 64129
Open dawn till dusk year-round
Our farm drop-off is centrally located just 5 miles east of the Country Club Plaza on Urbavore Urban Farm with easy access from 435 highway. While this urban farm is in the heart of the City, we encourage you to consider another option with a lower carbon footprint if it is not close by or in route with your usual outings.
How it Works
- Pull into the front parking lot
- Empty compostables into the large black dump trailer
- Take all plastic bags, containers, etc. with you when you leave
NO PLASTIC, NO TRASH, NO BRUSH! NO COMMERCIAL WASTE.
Free composting services since 2011
Urbavore Urban Farm has been offering free composting services since 2011, and can compost a wide range of materials:
- FOOD WASTE including all types of vegetable scraps, grains, meat, dairy, and cooked or raw foods. Dump materials into our dumpster loose, or in a compostable bag.
- LEAVES We’ll take them bagged or loose, but no plastic please! Brown leaf bags break down in our compost pile, but plastic bags must be emptied and taken with you. Also, look out for plastic bottles or wrappers that you might have accidentally raked up in your yard.
- YARD CLIPPINGS Acorns, and other non-woody plant materials
- NO WOODY MATERIAL We don't accept large fibrous materials like tree limbs or sticks, as we do not have the ability to chip or grind.

Since 2021, Compost Collective KC has managed Urbavore Farm’s free drop-off, unburdening the farmers of the constant task of removing contamination and dumping the material! Hooray for partnerships!
